UGA soccer shellacked by LSU

The 8th-ranked Georgia women’s team took a five-game winning streak into Baton Rouge Friday and barely came out alive as LSU roared to a 4-0 victory in the SEC opener for both teams.

This was the latest date in any season the Lady Bulldogs (7-1-1) had gone unbeaten. But wow, what a way to take that first one on the chin . . . in the gut . . . and to the kneecaps. They they take on Arkansas on Sunday in Fayetteville.

In other women’s scores Friday, Georgia Southern was blanked 3-0 by Appalachian State. Kennesaw State, which shut out Stetson 3-0 on Friday, plays host to Florida Gulf Coast Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Georgia State men’s team will try to play its Colonial Athletic Association opener at 2 p.m. Saturday against Hofstra at Panthersville Stadium, weather permitting.

The Lady Panthers are on the road against William & Mary Sunday.
